As the DC Universe (subscription service) prepares to launch the premiere trailer to the site’s first “Original Series” TITANS brings to life the comics heroes in an unprecedented explosion to lure viewers in!
The New Teen Titans as imagined by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez for the DC Comics Modern Era spawned one of the imprint’s most fabled runs, often giving Marvel Comics direct competitor The Uncanny X-Men a run for their money on the newsstand. When the title was relaunched in the 80s it reintroduced the long-associated sidekicks of the big leaguers as a force to be reckoned with all on their own; the title also introduced some new faces into the face that have since become household names.
A longtime admirer of the original comics, Marv Wolfman had even contributed stories to that series original run, before teaming up with his longtime co-conspirator George Pérez to reunite Robin, Kid Flash and Wonder Girl with the charismatic Changeling, and ally themselves alongside an alien fugitive, a living computer and the daughter of an otherworldly demon. For more than 50 years the Teen Titans have remained a constant presence and one of DC’s most popular commodities.
It’s no surprise then that the Titans have become the anchor to the DC Universe online subscription service which will be launching in the Fall of 2018, and bring with it a multi-faceted library of content never-before available under one umbrella, including all new Original Live-Action and Animated Series. Titans is being produced by Greg Berlanti who also produces the primetime DC line-up for The CW, and had been on the creative’s radar ever since he introduced The Flash a spin-off of the hit that started it all Arrow.
It’s Time to Play
The Titans had originally been acquired as an original series for TNT, and the network held onto the brand only until recently. Once it was clear that the competitive cable network was not going forward with the development of the series, Berlanti scooped it up. Titans had since been announced would be the corner stone of the subscription service that DC was putting together. The trailer for Titans has just been released in conjunction with the DC Universe online experience promoted at San Diego Comic-Con.
In the trailer introducing the Titans the series’ star Brenton Thwaites is seen finally in his role as Dick Grayson, the one-time partner of the Dark Knight detective may have had a falling out with his mentor, but has come to the attention of one mysteriously dark young woman calling herself Raven and played by Teagan Croft. The series will also star Anna Diop and Ryan Potter as the alien Starfire and the Beast Boy with the animal magnetism. The series is co-created by Berlanti and Akiva Goldsman who is also responsible for the successful Star Trek: Discovery.
Almost immediately the fan response has been mixed. The Titans world is markedly darker and grimmer than it’s CW primetime contemporaries, though it is rumored to be connected to the Expanded Cinematic Universe. In fact, the series will spin-off another original series for DC Universe, Doom Patrol and the Justice League’s Cyborg (who is also himself a Titan) is said to inspire the launch of that storyline when the Doom Patrol are introduced within the first season of Titans. Titans will premiere in the Fall of 2018 and will be available as part of the full-subscription to the new DC Universe subscription service also launching in the Fall.
