The King of the Seven Seas rises to the occasion in the first trailer for the upcoming full-length AQUAMAN starring the break-out Justice Leaguer taking on the denizens of the depths!

Not surprising at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con fans were eagerly rallying to get their first glimpse at the upcoming big screen, big hero features, chief among them Aquaman starring Jason Momoa the undeniable break-out star of Justice League. Momoa’s rebellious “bad ass” version of the iconic DC character branded Arthur Curry among one of that movie’s most formidable forces as he battler-armored parademon invaders and even went toe-to-toe against the resurrected Man of Steel (Henry Cavill).

Aquaman (Momoa) faces his half-brother, the treacherous Ocean Master (Wilson) who is bent on ruling the Seven Seas and sinking the surface world.

When the cast of Justice League first assembled for SDCC the audience immediately became enamored with Momoa’s spirit, an infectious spirit that has appeared to transcended to his own titular adventure which is directed by James Wan and set for release on December 21st, 2018. The film will finally reveal the origins of Arthur Curry, the boy from Atlantis who is raised by his father while his mother, the Queen of Atlantis (Nicole Kidman) balances the forces threatening to usurp her throne, including Arthur’s half-brother Orm (Patrick Wilson) the Ocean Master.

The first trailer was introduced at SDCC and the audience’s reaction was pretty positive. Momoa strikes a very assertive stance as the defender of the Seven Seas, who will have to decide what is his place in the world. Joining him will be his paramour Mera, with Amber Heard reprising the role of the water-wielder first seen in Justice League. Before assuming his mantle, Aquaman will have to face down Orm and his co-conspirator the mercenary Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) as the villainous pair reign the force of the oceans on the surface world.

Talks to Fish?

Though Aquaman had often been perceived as a punchline among the superhero community, the hero has emerged as a more than capable tier in the DC Comics pantheon largely in thanks to the contribution of creative head Geoff Johns. Johns reimagined the King of the Seven Seas and founding member of the Justice League as a force to be reckoned with and not just a guy who talks to fish. Even Batman (Ben Affleck) has to tread carefully when asking the ocean lord to “put out some fillers”; Arthur makes it clear — “the water does most of the talking.”

Under the direction of James Wan, who will also be brining another force of nature to life with his interpretation of Swamp Thing for the DC Universe subscription service in the fall, Aquaman looks like a man of action, an extraordinary abled man on a search for his truth that leads him to the mythical edges of the ocean’s depths and the realm of Atlantis. The mythological origins of Aquaman’s world are on full display, with raging sees, and armies straddling sharks and other sea creatures.

Aquaman opens in theaters December 21st, 2018.
